The Spirit in St. Francis' life
Francis heard a sermon that changed his life. The sermon was
about Matthew 10:9, in which Christ tells his followers they should go forth
and proclaim that the Kingdom of Heaven was upon them, that they should take no
money with them, nor even a walking stick or shoes for the road. Francis was
inspired to devote himself to a life of poverty due to his previous wrong doing
and the sin he had committed in the past 20 years of his life. His prayer
represents his beliefs about God and what God has given to him. He started
living out the gospel literally and hypothetically. He knew the difference and
was careful to know where to draw the line. He was passionate about what he
said and believed it thoroughly, all of his faith was entrusted in God and when
it came time to live out what he said, he always did. He was a firm believer of
practice what you preach. This made him look like the real deal to high arches
of the Catholic, Lutheran and Anglican churches, thus ensuring him to be
considered a saint. This is how St. Francis spiritual life was lived
out.
